Review of Tang Hall Rock School's first Christmas Gig!
“Review of Tang Hall Rock School’s Christmas Gig”
by Carly Fahey and Becky O’Donovan
Tang Hall Rock School’s first ever Christmas Gig went down a storm, featuring fantastic live performances by all of the Tang Hall Rock School groups and clubs: The Junior Rock and Pop Club, Inclusion Rock and Pop Club, Satellite Group, Teens Rock and Pop Club, Adults Rock and Pop Club – and The Tang Hall Chorus. All styles of music: punk, rock, rap and choir etc united for a sensational evening of live music performed by children, teenagers and adults from the local area.
Said to be one of the “most moving acts” of the night, were a father-son duo performing an original song, with Kirby Howarth on vocals and guitar, whilst son Ewan played the drums. The Teen’s Club member Jodie made several appearances throughout the concert on vocals, the most notable of which was a performance with the Teen band, “Awoken” of “Love will Tear us Apart” by Joy Division which blew the crowd away.
Another inspirational original track, said to have been written with the Tang Hall area in mind, “Going Nowhere in a Hurry” was a rap, written and performed by “Gaz” also available to listen to on Sound Cloud if you were unfortunate enough to have missed the show.
Among some of the thirty plus songs performed were a punk version of “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” and a beautiful, hair-raising taken on Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” by the Tang Hall Chorus.
All in all, the concert showcased some of the most unexpected, truly amazing talent seen in a while from this small area and left us hopeful of what could be next in store from the ever growing Tang Hall Rock School.
