Friday's Fabulous Event!
Open day/mini gig/workshops/launch of Musication: What a fantastic event!
After the last week’s flurry of promotion, with Becky and Carly’s last minute leaflet
drop, Sue’s appearance on York Radio, and some pretty intensive facebook action –
Friday finally arrived, and we opened our doors to potentials for our new Musication
course. This is really cutting edge stuff – with our brand new music industry ‘in
sound-bites’ course being piloted throughout March ....
We kicked off with a very impressive blues/rock/indie act, Luke Jowsey (one of our
newly recruited coaches) – with some nice guitar moves and a belting voice. Next
up was Kirby Howarth, who many of you already know as a great coach, but did you
know just how superb his voice is? A class act Kirby! Then the moment arrived
when Liam Kritikal Powers took to the floor, and treated us to fast and furious grime,
as well as some more commercial dance-track backings, with “Breathe” certainly
hitting the spot. The question and answer session was honest and very moving, and
not only Liam but many of the audience were talking about turning bad experiences
into verse. Finally we had a fun African drumming workshop. Jack Keegan and
Luke Richardson, led some of us who were lucky enough to get hold of a drum, in a
three part piece. The crowning glory was when Liam did an impromptu freestyle over
the top. You can see us in the picture just as we were getting going!
Anyone who missed Friday but fancies finding out more about Musication should
come along next week! We had a great turnout, but the more the merrier!
