Tang Hall SMART @ ROBOT CHALLENGE 2015 - Vienna April 11th/12th

Tang Hall SMART is intensely proud to be represented at the European Championships for self-made autonomous robots by Colin Durrans, a pivotal member of our adult electronics/technology club.

640 robots from 40 countries will participate this year – and Colin is hoping that his own robots will sweep the opposition away, when it comes to doing battle in the mini sumo competition; an autonomous robot version of sumo Japanese wrestling! Over the last few months, Colin has been working on the design and production of his robots at the Tech club, and is getting close to having created that perfect robot that might just win the challenge!Colin has been using the club’s CNC miller to cut chassis and circuit boards, as well as the 3D printer to make wheels and other parts. Colin says, that as the robot design is “low cost”, it is therefore something that the SMART electronic/technology club can use in the future as the basis of other club activities.

The Robot Challenge is an event hosted by the Austrian Society for innovative Computer Sciences (INNOC) in cooperation with the Austrian Ministry of Science. It offers suitable contests for beginners as well as for experienced robot designers such as Colin. For those who are interested in informatics, electronics, mechanics and artificial intelligence, this is a crucial event on the calendar … we will certainly be following Colin and his robots on twitter, as he makes his journey to Austria, and competes in the big event. Best of luck Colin!!!
