Summer Schools Smashed It!
We kicked off August in style with our Summer Schools for budding young musicians with learning disabilities. The first, for under 17s, was attended by a smashing group of teenagers, who developed their instrumental and vocal skills, and then composed a song, with fabulous results as can be heard if you tune into Soundcloud! (Rebecca - James - Andrew - Chloe - Teresa) Each musician worked with Neil, who then produced the finished tracks using their ideas and vocal work.
The second summer school was for the over 17s, and these guys worked in two groups to create original pieces, using their own ideas. We ended up with a rap combo using the looper, and an indie-feel anti-Trump anthem! In the words of Tom, “Everybody was brilliant!”
Both summer schools included some art-work; a new direction for Tang Hall SMART. Just have a look at the creativity on show in the gallery pictures with these amazing cardboard heads!
This week we are off to Knaresborough for Feva 2017, organised by the wonderful Orb, where artists from our current Musication group will be performing alongside other community arts organisations from around Yorkshire: Chapel FM Arts Centre, Converge York, HOOT Creative Arts and of course Orb. I will write more in my next blog, and let you know how the first appearance of 'Resistance', my own band went!
Til then - EXPRESS YOURSELF
