Tang Hall SMART: Holly’s perspective.
Each week at Tang Hall SMART I have the joy of seeing so many people I work with find new skills, develop existing skills and grow as individuals. The people we work with at SMART may have experienced barriers stopping them from achieving what they would like to; however, at SMART we smash these barriers.
As some of you may know, I have worked in the adult social care sector, which has a principle of person centred care; one of the most positive things I see every day is just how person-centred Tang Hall SMART is. Each and every staff member takes the time to listen and be patient to understand each individual and how to give them the best experience of SMART. In my opinion the staff team I work with at Tang Hall SMART are some of the most hardworking, compassionate and inspirational people around. Everything done, has our service users wants, wishes and needs at the core of our work, which to me is one of the things which makes Tang Hall SMART such a special place to work.
I am proud to work here, and proud to tell you about the upcoming events and brand new projects here at SMART, facilitated by our staff members, and accomplished by our service users.
Sue, the managing director, has formed a band: 'Resistance', along with other staff members, musicians and graduates from Musication. The name ‘Resistance’ symbolises the resistance the members have overcome, from gender stereotypes to addiction to homelessness. This band is an example of the positive impact SMART has on our service users and staff members.
Resistance have just released ‘The 4AM EP’ which is available to buy on the front page of the website. I would recommend everyone listen to them, their lyrics relating to personal experiences are hard hitting and quite frankly they are just brilliant.
Finally, we come to our Barbican gig. This is an amazing, once in a lifetime opportunity for all our musicians. This eagerly anticipated event in November 11th will build up the confidence and skills of all the people performing: this event will not only be wonderful to watch, but also rewarding to be involved in! We hope to see you there!
